The Birds of Paradise are a family of birds found in the New Guinea region that have evolved the most varied and most elaborate plumes and display behaviors in the bird world. The male birds of paradise have spectacular plumage that they use to attract mates. They also have different rituals that are preformed for the females. The Birds of Paradise Project has produced two National Geographic stories, a 1 hour documentary on the National Geographic Channel, a traveling interactive exhibit and a beautiful coffee table book. Bowerbirds are a group of catbirds that live in Australia and New Guinea. They have a unique courtship behavior that involves building a structure called a bower. The bower can be simple as some leaves around a sapling to elaborate as a large dome made of sticks. They decorate the court around the bower with different objects to attract females. Tim has been exploring the world since he was a child in Japan. His desire to explore, his love for the outdoors and his spirit of adventure has taken him so some remote places where few people have been. The creatures of Borneo's rain forest go airborne. Many animals have adaptions that allow them to glide through the air. This collection includes flying snakes, flying lizards, flying frogs, flying squirrels and flying lemurs.

Tim Laman has been the National Geographic Photographer on many of National Geographic / Lindblad Expeditions cruises. When traveling to the Antarctic Peninsula Tim saw the icebergs as majestic pieces of art. These artistic images include the different shapes icebergs create. Tim was born in Japan and he returned their for this project to attempt to capture another side of Japan that few people realize even exists -- the winter gatherings of wildlife, especially in the Northern island of Hokkaido. This story was published in National Geographic Magazine in January 2003.

This collection of images was taken for a National Geographic story that was published in February 2007. Tim Laman traveled to more than six countries to capture the diversity of life and use of the world's mangroves.

Proboscis monkeys, also know as the Bekantan or long-nosed monkey, are arboreal monkeys that live in Borneo. They are known for their long protruding nose and long tails.

These unique sights in Borneo's rain forest are not seen during the day. Many species are nocturnal and others are just more interesting in the light of night.
